The farmers are all local as are most of the workers in their fields. The hedger, labourer and joiner are all Irish. The Sheriff Substitute and teacher are from another part of Scotland. The local girls work in the bigger houses in Sorbie and Wigtown. The minister is English with a local manservant and gardener. There is an old Irish boy still working away rain and shine and another who has probably been dressing Flax for 60 years or more.
