      <content>Hi, in fact in your graph the patents are in absolute value, not per million population. The American researchers register much more patents than Finland or Switzerland, but relative to their population those two countries file about 2x as much as the US! </content>

      <content>So what? The conversion of patented technologies into economic drivers is dependent on development potential and marketability. The success rate is incredibly low across medical and agricultural technologies, with only moderately better success in the high-tech and energy fields. Because of the low conversion rate(s), the biggest factor in conversion is indeed the absolute value--more is more promising in this case--not a per capita ratio. Your preferred measure may speak to national priorities, governability and small country administration, or policy but is 2X as many patents per capita indicative of in your mind?</content>
