    <title>Comment on VisualizationPost ' So, this visualization I think shows (in rather dramatic fashion)...'</title>

    <link href="http://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/visualizations/american-players-seeds-by-year-us-op/comments/89ade5ae14209c1401149f52ebf62446" rel="alternate"/>
    <summary type="html"> So, this visualization I think shows (in rather dramatic fashion) how far American tennis has fallen since the salad days of the late-'70s, early-'80s, at least for the men. I have yet to scrape the WTA site to get the women's draws, but I suspect the numbers will be fairly similar. Actually, maybe even more dramatic, come to think of it. I've highlighted the high- and low-water marks for the men above, and it's pretty incredible. The peak year is 1982, when 78 ... that's right... seventy-eight... US Players earned their way into the 128-player main draw. You can see how far things have fallen since then, with low-points in 1999 and 2004.</summary>

    <summary type="html">Wow, this is slick as heck! I really like this visualization. To answer the question about Clinton and payroll taxes... Again, it's a reporting problem. The FEC does not require candidates to report salaries any particular way, so, some of them break out payroll taxes and benefits as a separate line item, and others don't. Actually, come to think of it I think Clinton is the only one that doesn't, but I could be wrong. So, the best way to look at payroll is actually to combine salaries and taxes/benefits. That's the best apples-to-apples. I had them broken out because certain reporters wanted to look at certain candidates and find out who is making what in before-tax income. In truth, I probably should have combined those fields for this visualization... a very good point there.</summary>

    <title>Comment on VisualizationPost 'Sorry for being slow on the uptake. &quot;Media&quot; in this case...'</title>

    <summary type="html">Sorry for being slow on the uptake. &quot;Media&quot; in this case is a very, very broad category that includes money for any kind of advertising, phone banks, polling operations as well as a slew of other voter-contact related activities -- everything from T-shirts to lawn signs. The problem with FEC data is that it doesn't break out specific expenditures for specific things. For example, there is no way to say how much a candidate is spending on advertising versus direct mail versus phone banks. I wish there were. So, the best I could do was group together all the expenditures on items related to reaching out to voters (whether that is by phone, mail or broadcast TV/radio).</summary>
