Buckwalter to give one-hour live chat on Wednesday, November 14 1:00... Why am I being matched to dead profiles? Why won t eHarmony show who is paid and who isn t? How many days or weeks must a profile be inactive before the system pulls it off the matching pool? Why won t eHarmony show the date of last activity or last login of my matches? Why do the ads and the test not say upfront that eHarmony rejects people ? eHarmony advertising is talking about marriage less and less, was the matching system adjusted also? Is eHarmony Canada s matching software identical to the main site? Has eHarmony began doing/has done research on homosexual relationships ? They CAN get married, you know. Does the test still reject 20% of those who take it? Has this percentage gone up or down? If I rate my matches (Match Rating), how soon will this improve the matches you send me? I see no improvement at all! Does the system match on personal interests (Board Games, Church involvement, Conversation, Dining Out, etc.) you asked them during the test or is this just a sneaky way to gather marketing demographics for your advertisers? If I sign in more often, will I get more matches? If I sign in LESS often, will I get less matches? If I respond to matches quickly, will I get more matches? If I respond to matches SLOWLY, will I get less matches? What are the most recent tweaks you made on the matching system? On the shorter 250-item questionnaire, what happened to the Family Background dimension? The test doesn t ask it at all! Does height matter? You got complaints about this. What s the scoop? If you don t match on income , then why ask it in the test AND have it among the Match Flexibility settings? You have Arab, Indian, Japanese and Korean as separate ethnicities, but what should people in the Middle-East (Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds and Persians), and Bangladeshis and Pakistanis (they are NOT Indians) choose?
eHarmony Possible New Feature "Who has Viewed Me?" [Dating Sites... The unofficial eHarmony Blog got a little scoop regarding the possibility of a "Who has viewed me?" feature. SingleGuyInNC noticed the disabled option when it flashed briefly on his screen when he signed into eHarmony today. If this is a new feature that eHarmony will be adding soon, it should help with the complaints in our user reviews regarding not been able to see which profile has had their member login recently. If some one has viewed you then you know it is an active profile. The only problem is, you still don't know if he or she is a paid member and can communicate with you. Still, I hope they add this feature in. Better yet, eHarmony should just tell us in the profile view when the member has last logged. For more information on eHarmony, please read our review .

The Big 3 Dating Site Matching Systems [Dating Sites Reviews] The New York Times has had several interesting articles this past month related to online dating. This past week they published an article regarding the more popular match systems called Hitting It Off, Thanks to Algorithms of Love . The three main systems out there are from the dating sites eHarmony, Perfectmatch.com and Chemistry. The article goes on and talks about some of the published statistics behind the matching systems, their companies advertising battles and the problems with these systems not being peer reviewed. The matching systems of the big 3 all work to varying degrees for singles. The question is which one has the most success with members. If you read some of the user reviews on any of these dating sites, they all have complaints about there matching systems. For the most part, I think the fault here lies not so much with the matching system as with the users proximity to their best match. This is especially true for members in rural areas. Most members (rightly so) don't want to travel great lengths to meet their match. On average this is probably limited to about 1 hour driving distance. I believe most of these match systems to accommodate this condition will reduce the systems match quality in order to list some potential matches. This is where dating services maybe should rethink their strategy. Members are paying good money for matches. If the system cannot produce a quality match maybe they shouldn't be charged. Maybe a new payment system needs to be worked out where they could charge members, per quality match, and a reduced charge for matches that my not be quite as compatible for a number of different reasons. Those reasons should be listed so the member can then determine who they want to contact (if any). As example, if the only reason member B wasn't a quality match was because he or she lived 2 hours away from member A . Member A may then reconsider this member over say another member that was a good match except for the fact they where a smoker. What I am waiting for is for one of these dating sites to release how their matching system works for peer review. They will open themselves to scrutiny but it will also give them some legitimacy. When these details are first released, I see a snowball effect with other competing dating services eventually releasing details as well. The main reason they would do this is to point out how their matching system produces better results. These dating services would have to prove this by example, or who would believe them? According to the article, it looks like Chemistry may be the first among the three to be releasing details. Dr. Fisher (the person behind Chemistry's match system) plans to show evidence on how their system works based on the successes of there members. The key here is details from their match system algorithm will also be released.
Comment on All about eHarmony s guarantees and refund policy by... Beanie wrote: I have to echo Chip s sentiments I too had a fairly easy time canceling my membership and getting a refund. I will say though, reading through this blog first, helped me tremendously. Thank you, thank you. I had signed up (exactly one week ago-last Saturday) for a three month membership paying the $59.95 special rate. I paid it through paypal and it was quickly taken out of my bank account. After being less than satisfied with matching results and just the whole canned communication set-up of their site, I decided it wasn t for me. The steps were pretty simple: 1) went to my settings, then account settings and at the bottom hit the close account button. you have to follow it all the way through, which includes checking why you are canceling (I picked it was the cost). Then I was taken to the page which said to call the number 1-800-648-9548 to confirm cancellation. 2) I called the number, and hit 1 for billing questions. NOW THIS PART IS KEY even though their message says they are experiencing a high volume of calls and that you may want to try again later or even to press 9 to have a rep call YOU back, I stayed on the line. and guess what? a customer service person came on within 2 mintues. I think the message is just a stalling tactic so you ll hang up and then not get around to calling back. 3) since I knew she would ask me why I wanted to cancel and try to convince me otherwise, I just gave her a story that she couldn t possibly challenge told her that I was accepting a job out of the country, would be busy getting all my affairs in order over the next 2 months and would have no time for dating and no interest in starting anything. told her I would be moving around alot in the next 2 years for this job. so she said she understood, gave me some little sales schpeel about eharmony and my options if I wanted a free month or some other crap. I stayed firm in my wanting to cancel AND to get a refund. She put me on hold and then came back with a confirmation number. A few minutes later in my inbox, I received a notice from PayPal that eharmony had refunded my $59.95. I m wondering if all of the pressure from blogs such as this and consumer complaints have pressured eharmony into being more fair and cooperative with their cancellation and refund policy. If so, score one for the little guy! Posted 16 Feb 2008 at 9:03 am Is this comment helpful? 0
From DreamingOfAtlantis, on What would you like to see more of on... There was a thread with a LOT of valid concerns, comments, complaints, and suggestions. It was moderated (read: censored). EHarmony does have the right to censor on their own site, but when the users have a lot of valid questions and eH decides to just blank them out, it sends a message that eH doesn t care about the member concerns, which is a slap in the face because without members, nobody would see the ads that bring in profit.
